Kathleen Riethmuller: Dad appeals for help to find missing daughter

The father of missing Kathleen Riethmuller has issued a heartfelt plea to his daughter who has been missing for almost two weeks.

Danielle Gusmaroli Daily Telegraph

The father of missing Kathleen Riethmuller has issued a heartfelt plea to his daughter who has been missing for almost two weeks saying: “We’re really concerned, come home.”

Speaking through supporters rallying to help find the 28-year old who disappeared after she was last seen at Bunnings in Artarmon on October 28, Paul Riethmuller said: “We are really grateful for all the support, we’re worried about Kathleen, it’s been distressing, we are concerned, we want her home.”

Ms Riethmuller, who is originally from Brisbane, disappeared from Sydney with her belongings found in a backpack discarded in a suburban street.

She appeared “jittery and twitchy” when she checked into a Sydney hostel the day she vanished after paying for a budget room at the Elephant Backpacker hostel in Woolloomooloo.

She then walked out with her belongings that morning.

“I checked her in and gave her the keys, she paid for a budget room, she was jittery and twitchy, that’s why I remember her,” manager Nick said.

“She was wearing a mask and I added her to the list but she never even went to her room, she walked towards the cafe and left and made her way to North Sydney.”

Soon afterwards, Ms Riethmuller was last seen captured on security camera footage visiting Bunnings Artarmon in Sydney’s north around 11.40am.

She was spotted again several hours later at 2.30pm in North Sydney, wearing a long sleeve denim dress and black flat shoes.

Her belongings including her ID, phone and bank cards have subsequently been found ditched in a backpack on Centennial Ave in Lane Cove.

The former Brisbane Girls Grammar graduate has not been in contact with her family since the day she vanished prompting a police investigation into her whereabouts amid growing concerns for her safety.

She had been living in Sydney since May and detectives are investigating the possibility she travelled to Melbourne for job opportunities and have widened the net for her search into Victoria.

Days before she vanished she placed adverts to sell 11 items — including a Lulu Lemon yoga mat, an easel and lamp — on Gumtree between October 16 and 22.

The gumtree account has remained inactive since she went missing.

Friends say her parents are beside themselves and have been praying for her safe return but are hampered by attempts to help search for her in NSW because they cannot leave Queensland due to border restrictions.

Concerned family and friends have launched a Facebook page dedicated to finding Kathleen, who also frequently spent time in the inner city.

“Kathleen is known to have frequented a unit on King Street in Sydney and backpacker’s accommodation on Sir John Young Crescent, Woolloomooloo in the weeks leading to her disappearance,’ the page reads.

One friend fears she may need medical assistance and has urged anyone with information to come forward.

“We ask that those with dash cameras who were in the vicinity of any of the below areas during or around the hours of 11am – nightfall have a look to see if they can spot Kathleen or anything else that could help locate her,” organisers of the page say.

‘We are hopeful that reaching out as far and wide as possible can assist in getting her home safely.’

NSW police say inquiries are continuing.

Anyone who may have information about her whereabouts or has seen Kathleen are urged to contact Chatswood Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Sydney woman’s Gumtree ads mysteriously disappear after trying to sell belongings before vanishing

There’s been a mysterious twist in the case of a Sydney woman who vanished from the city’s north weeks ago.

A missing Sydney woman’s Gumtree ads have mysteriously disappeared weeks after she vanished from Sydney’s north.

Kathleen Riethmuller, 28, listed some of her belongings for sale in the week before she disappeared.

A Sydney-based Gumtree account set up with her name listed various homewares for sale between October 20 and October 22, worth a total of $410.

The items for sale included a yoga mat, a vintage room divider, a lamp, an easel and a framed mosaic picture.

Police are understood to be looking into why she attempted to sell some of her items before she disappeared.

The advert, however, has since vanished and her profile wiped clean.

Police are still searching for Ms Riethmuller, who was last seen on October 28 in North Sydney.

Her backpack containing her ID, bank cards, money and other personal belongings was found later that day by a member of the public on Centennial Ave, Lane Cove.

Ms Riethmuller was captured on CCTV leaving a Bunnings on Reserve Rd, Artarmon, just before noon on the day she vanished.

She was wearing a long sleeve denim dress and black flat shoes.

Detectives searching for her have said they believe she may have travelled to Melbourne for employment opportunities.

But police and her family hold serious concerns for her welfare given they have not managed to contact her.

Police said Ms Riethmuller often frequented a unit on King St in Sydney and backpackers accommodation on Sir John Young Crescent, Woolloomooloo, where she was believed to have checked in on October 28.

But she never went to her room. Instead she left immediately and was believed to have travelled to North Sydney where she was last seen.

Friends have launched a social media page dedicated to finding her.

It explains Ms Riethmuller’s family is based in Brisbane and was unable to get to Sydney because of restrictions. It is unclear if they have made it across the border.

“It is possible that she is in need of medical assistance … we are hopeful that reaching out as far and wide as possible can assist in getting her home safely,” one of the posts reads.

Ms Riethmuller is described as being of caucasian appearance, between 165cm and 175cm tall, of thin build, with long dark hair.

Anyone who may have information about her whereabouts or has seen her is urged to contact Chatswood police station or Crime Stoppers.

NSW Police have declined to elaborate on the investigation, only stating that “there is no further update and inquiries are continuing”.
