Buddy Summers, 47 years old, was last sighted on June 18, 2011 in the Morisset NSW area wearing dark pants and a St George football shirt.

Security stepped up at Morisset hospital after patient death

Hunter New England Health has explained to a coroner's inquest, steps have been taken to improve security at Morisset hospital, since the death of a patient in 2011.

At Cessnock Corner's Court this week Deputy State Coroner Paul MacMahon concluded an inquest into the death of Buddy Summers with an open finding.

Magistrate MacMahon found 46-year-old Buddy Summers died sometime after his disappearance from Morisset Hospital on June 18, 2011.

He said the evidence available did not enable him to make a finding into the manner of his death.

Hunter New England Local Health explained that since that time it has carried out a risk assessment of the perimeter fence in the garden area of Kaoriki House at Morisset Hospital.

It has identified ways to ensure involuntary patients are not able to leave Kaoriki house by scaling the fence.
