Human remains have been found near Mt Charles in Wellington Park in the state’s South.
A group of bushwalkers advised police they had discovered bones and camping gear during an expedition on Monday.
Police officers from search and rescue, Glenorchy CIB and Marine Services used four-wheel-drive vehicles to access the site and examine it.
Documents found near the remains indicate they belong to
Dale Godfrey who has been missing since 2013.
DNA analysis will be used to confirm the identification.
Mr Godfrey was last sighted while camping on Mt Wellington. Prior to going missing, he had spent most of his time living in the Huonville area.
Mr Godfrey’s family has been notified and there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
