Daniel Plain was diagnosed with dementia in late 2016 and his
condition has slowly deteriorated. Due to his dementia, Daniel would
walk around town, normally leaving his house in the late afternoon
or early evening. In recent months, he appeared to be walking to
places from his childhood. He would normally return to his house on
his own or a member of the public or family would drive him home.
On the 23rd of March 2020, Daniel had dinner with his wife and
daughter. In the early evening, Daniel left the house in Larapinta,
Alice Springs NT, on foot without any belongings and did not state
where he was planning to walk. Daniel has not returned home.
Anyone with information which may assist in locating the whereabouts
of Daniel is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

approach towards finding Mr Plain, with his dementia diagnosis
influencing search areas.
“We’ve received advice that people with dementia often go back to
their childhood memories,” Ms McCormack said.
“So we’ve compiled a list and have been actively looking and
searching in these places, places that family and friends have
shared on his past.

Family of missing Alice Springs man plead with public
for help finding their loved one
THE family of missing NT man Daniel Plain is
appealing for help finding their loved one following
his mysterious disappearance almost two weeks ago.
THE family of missing Alice Springs man Daniel Plain is
appealing for help finding their loved one following his
mysterious disappearance almost two weeks ago.
Mr Plain’s daughter-in-law Natasha McCormack said the family was
pleading for anyone who saw the 59-year-old, known as Danny, to come
forward.
“It’s definitely a confusing time and a really surreal situation to
be in and particularly because Danny has dementia that makes the
severity of the case even more concerning,” she said.
Ms McCormack said Mr Plain’s condition meant his mind could be
reliving old memories going as far back as childhood, meaning he
could even be as far away as Darwin by now.
“We’ve compiled a list of childhood memories around Alice Springs,
all the way up to Darwin because there are some possibilities that
he could have jumped in the car with someone because it happened
prior to the roadblocks being in force,” she said.
“It’s just at a dead end, it’s just stopped and there’s no more
leads so we’re just exploring all options.”
Mr Plain is the former drummer for popular Centralian rock band
Amunda, and Ms McCormack said he was well known in the area and may
have been picked up by someone he knew.
“A lot of people know him so there’s a possibility that someone
could have pulled up and had a chat and he may have (reverted) to a
childhood memory or just that he’s a very, very friendly man (and
could have) just jumped in the vehicle and went somewhere,” she
said.
“That’s why we’re reaching out to all surrounding communities,
roadhouses, service stations, community shires, the media, trying to
reach a really large demographic because there is a possibility he
may be somewhere else.”
Ms McCormack said the coronavirus crisis had complicated the search
but encouraged anyone who saw her father-in-law to report it to the
police immediately or take a photo so he could be identified while
maintaining social distance.
“Everyone’s going through a difficult time and with the coronavirus
dominating the media and everyone concerned for their family’s
safety and health, it has affected (the search) a little bit in
regard to (publicity),” she said.
“The community’s been really supportive but we need to be diligent
and keep an eye out and just keep refreshing people because we don’t
want Danny to be forgotten, we need to keep looking for him and find
him.”
Mr Plain was last seen on March 23 wearing a green T-shirt with red
shorts and black thongs and sporting a large beard while walking
with a distinctive limp.
Anyone with any information should call police on 131 444 or Crime
Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
