The 72-year-old was last seen six days ago when he left his wife at their campsite on the De Grey river North East of Port Hedland, telling her he was going for a walk.
Police and volunteers have spent the last six days searching for him from the ground and air.
Acting Senior Sergeant Dave Loverock from South Hedland police says there have been a number of unconfirmed sightings of Mr Gilbert in the region.
"We've extended our search inquiries out to bank accounts to see if he has just jumped in a car and travelled to another town and used his car details there, we've had sightings or possible sightings as far as Kalbarri, Karratha, Broome, and some here in South Hedland," he said.

David Gilbert farewelled his wife last Friday as he left their campsite on the De Grey River to go for a walk.
