Murder hearing: nightclub worker cleaned up blood
Amelia Bentley - Brisbane Times
September 8, 2010
A Fortitude Valley nightclub worker has told how she cleaned up
blood at her workplace around the time a man was believed to have
been murdered at the premises.
Brisbane Magistrates Court
this morning heard 47-year-old Kevin Stanley Brack was killed after
an argument at Flikkerz Foto and Dance Studio on Brunswick Street on
February 17, 2009.
Three men, Ashley Roberts, 29, Blaze Seaton Pearce, 34, and
Patrick Robert Doyle, 46, this week face a committal hearing charged
with his murder.
Jade Crawford gave evidence she worked at Flikkerz and that a
few nights before the Soundwave Festival on February 21 last year,
she helped clean up a pool of blood inside the nightclub.
Ms Crawford told the court she was informed that the blood had
been from a fight in the club.
Witness Clemanthus Gorham was brought to court from jail to
give evidence at the hearing this afternoon.
Ms Gorham, who is serving time for breaching a parole order,
said she knew "just about everybody" who hung out in the Valley.
She told the court she knew Mr Roberts and Mr Pearce and said
she had been friends with Mr Brack, nicknamed Orca, for about 12
years.
She admitted she had been scared of being around Mr Pearce
because she claimed he had assaulted her friend during an argument
about drugs early last year, around the time of Mr Brack's death.
Ms Gorham said the last time she saw Mr Brack he told her to
call him but when she dialled his mobile, it was turned off.
"Which was unusual because we always looked after each other,"
he said.
"I never seen him, never spoken to him again."
The committal hearing continues.
Three to stand trial for
allegedly murdering a man and disposing of body in wheelie bin
THREE men have been committed to stand trial after a man was
allegedly murdered inside a Brisbane strip club and disposed of in a
wheelie bin.
Patrick Robert Doyle, 46, Blaze Seaton Pearce, 34, and Ashley
Roberts, 29, faced a committal hearing in the Brisbane Magistrate's
Court charged with the murder of Kevin Stanley Brack.
Police claim the trio killed the 45-year-old at Flikkerz Foto and
Dance Studio in Fortitude Valley in February last year.
His body has never been found.
During eight days of evidence, the court heard from dozens of
witnesses, including former Flikkerz stripper Claudine Davis.
She said Roberts had been staying at Flikkerz, and had been using
the drug ice with Pearce in the days leading up to the alleged killing.
Davis told the court she had also been bingeing on ice, and was
designing tattoos while she talked to Brack, who was also known as Orca.
The pair talked about Brack's partner dying six months earlier
and about their past addictions to heroin.
"We had a good conversation. Orca was a nice man, I always had
time to chat to him," Davis said.
She told the court Roberts gave Brack money to buy more ice, which
he did, before Roberts complained about its quality.
"He said it was sh–t and he wanted his money back," she said.
Brack returned with the money but Roberts accused him of ripping
him off, and started punching him, Davis said.
"Ash asked for a knife and Blaze went to get it, and I recall them
stabbing Orca in the shoulder," she said.
"I was starting to freak out, so I went and sat out the back and
waited for it to finish."
Davis said she was still sitting outside when Roberts came out and
told her Brack was dead.
She told the court she mopped up a bit of blood on the floor and
sat around with the group having a smoke.
"(Roberts) seemed to relax and feel better. It was like the steam
had been released from a pressure cooker," Davis said.
Davis had a shower at a friend's house then went to Centrelink,
before returning to Flikkerz to find Doyle and Roberts "hovering" around
the front room.
"They indicated Orca's body was still there, and I saw them bring
a wheelie bin up the back stairs," she said.
The court heard the bin was wheeled into the room then wheeled
back out again.
Davis said she tried to put some rubbish in it but was told "not
this bin".
Magistrate Liz Hall committed all three accused to stand trial.
None have entered any plea.
They were remanded in custody to appear in the Supreme Court in
Brisbane on a date to be fixed.
A jury has found two men guilty of a Brisbane strip club
murder.
The jury in the Supreme Court trial deliberated for about
three days before finding Blaze Seaton Pearce and Ashley
Roberts guilty of the murder.
The court was told that 45-year-old Kevin Stanley Brack was
punched, kicked and stabbed to death two years ago in a
disagreement over drugs.
Traces of his DNA were found at a Fortitude Valley club, but
his body was never recovered.
Patrick Robert Doyle was found not guilty of murder, but
guilty to being an accessory after the fact.
Doyle has been remanded in custody and is yet to be
sentenced.
Pearce and Roberts have been jailed for life.
Eight years for putting body in bin
Christine Flatley Brisname Times
A man who helped dispose of a body in a strip club wheelie
bin has been jailed for eight years.
Two men have already been sentenced to life imprisonment
over the brutal murder of Kevin Stanley Brack, 47, at a
"C-grade" strip club in Brisbane's Fortitude Valley in
February 2009.
At the end of the three-week trial in June, a Queensland
Supreme Court jury cleared a third man, Patrick Robert
Doyle, 47, of Mr Brack's murder.
However, he was found guilty of being an accessory after the
fact, following revelations he helped dispose of the body
and clean up the club before police could arrive and search
for evidence.
His sentence was adjourned until today so the court could
obtain medical reports.
During the hearing the court was told Mr Brack was killed at
Flikkerz Foto and Dance Studio after an argument about poor
quality drugs.
He was knocked to the ground and then stabbed in the chest.
The court heard that after the death, Doyle dragged a
wheelie bin into the room from downstairs.
He helped place Mr Brack, who had been wrapped in a carpet,
inside the bin before taking it back outside.
The body has never been found.
The court heard today that Doyle also helped clean the club,
described by prosecutor Danny Boyle as a "C-grade strip club
associated with prostitution and drug use", before police
could arrive.
Justice Anthe Philippides described his involvement as
"callous", saying it had caused significant distress to Mr
Brack's family, who had never been able to give him a proper
burial.
She sentenced Doyle to eight years' jail and made no
recommendation for early parole.

Kevin Stanley Brack was murdered after a drug deal gone wrong at a
Fortitude Valley QLD strip club in February 2009.
Mr Brack, 45, was attacked by Blaze Pearce and Ashley Roberts at a strip
club following an argument over money and drugs before his body was
smuggled away in a wheelie bin.
CCTV footage put the time of Mr Brack’s death at between 10.49am and
10.55am on February 17, 2009.
A Supreme Court jury in Brisbane, took about three days to find Pearce
and Roberts guilty of the murder of Mr Brack at the Flikkerz Foto and
Dance Studios, in Brunswick Street while a third man, Patrick Robert
Doyle was found not guilty of murder but guilty of being an accessory
after the fact.
Police did not begin investigations into Mr Brack’s disappearance until
four months after the time he was killed but when police teams went to
the club they found stains under a carpet, under a lounge cushion, and
under tiles which later proved to contain Mr Brack’s DNA.
A former Flikkerz stripper Claudine Davis told of an argument between
Roberts and Mr Brack about the quality of the speed he had earlier
bought.
It was during the argument Mr Brack was punched, kicked and stabbed with
a knife.
In 2011, after a jury found Roberts guilty, Mr Brack’s family made an
impassioned plea for Roberts to reveal where he had hidden the body.
