NT police scale back search for missing hitchhiker - ABC

Northern Territory Police have scaled back their search for missing Queenslander, Oswald Orman, who disappeared more than a week ago in the Barkly.

The 37-year-old was last seen hitchhiking near the Barkly Homestead and his abandoned car was found last Tuesday.

A helicopter was used to search 3,000 square kilometres last week but found no clues.

Acting Superintendent Rob Burgoyne says while the air search has been called off, nine officers are continuing a ground search, speaking to station owners and businesses along the main highways.

"We're obviously talking with the people on the ground and when they feel that they can't do any more, when they've covered all the likely areas, they'll obviously get back to us and inform us that they don't believe that any further searching will be of any use.

"Then we'll seek permission from Darwin to call the search off," he said.

Search continues for missing motorist - ABC

Northern Territory and Queensland police are searching a remote region, west of Mount Isa in north-west Queensland, to find a missing motorist.

Oswal Orman, 37, from Gatton in southern Queensland, disappeared 12 days ago.

He was last seen hitch-hiking near the Barkly Homestead Roadhouse.

Camooweal police Sergeant Ross Kirkpatrick says a helicopter and motorbikes are being used to cover a 3,000 kilometre search area.

"He's been missing now since January 20, so it's quite an extensive time, he hasn't accessed his bank accounts to our knowledge and if he is in that area of Barkly Homestead then he's got very limited access to food and water," he said.

"If he is travelling, he's in need of help and we'd like to get him to some medical assistance, there's very real concerns for his medical condition at the moment."
