At 8.30am on Thursday, 4 June 1953, Patricia Broun left her home at Inverness Circle, Mount Lawley to travel to work.

That afternoon whilst at work, she received a telephone call from a male caller. At the conclusion of the telephone call Patricia agreed to meet the caller at 6pm.

She was last sighted at the Walcott Street tram terminus, about a 400 metres from her home at about 6pm. She was later reported as a missing person.

The person or persons responsible for Patricia’s disappearance have not been identified.

BACKGROUND:

Patricia Daphne Broun was single and employed as a shorthand typist at the time of her disappearance. She lived at home with her parents and siblings on Inverness Circle Mount Lawley. Patricia, the second youngest, was born in Goomalling, Western Australia in August 1935 and was known to her friends and family as ‘Pat’.

CASE DETAILS:

At 8.30am on Thursday 4 June 1953, Patricia left her home in Mount Lawley to travel to work at HC Griffin, ANA House, 44 St Georges Terrace, Perth.

Around 3pm that afternoon whilst at work, Patricia received a telephone call from a male. Towards the conclusion of the telephone call Patricia agreed to meet the man at 6pm. This conversation was overheard by a work colleague.

Patricia requested to leave work early that day at 4.30pm. She caught a ‘trolley bus’ to Mount Lawley and around 5pm walked to the Simmon’s Grocery store at 291 Walcott Street North Perth where she purchased a can of Coca Cola. She then walked to Osborne’s, a corner store at the intersection of Walcott and Clieveden Streets and returned to Simmon’s around 5.45pm. Under her arm, she was carrying a parcel which was approximately 8” x 9” x 3” (20cm x 22cm x 8cm) in size.  She was last seen in the vicinity of Walcott Street around 6pm.

Prior to her disappearance, Patricia confided to a friend she was two months pregnant. Her parents were not aware of this disclosure and were quite religious. If Patricia was in fact pregnant, her child would have been born in late 1953 or early 1954. Patricia would be in her 80’s if she is still alive today.

Patricia has not been seen or heard from since. Patricia’s parents passed away many years ago not knowing what happened to their daughter.

The person or persons responsible for Patricia’s disappearance have not yet been identified.
