Vanished without a trace: Search for Peter Hodgins as search continues
The search for a man who walked out of his aged care home in a
Queensland country town three months ago and disappeared without a trace
has so far failed to offer any clue of his whereabouts.
Despite efforts by the Queensland Police Service and other agencies, Mr
Hodgins’ location remains unknown, leaving authorities and the community
baffled.
Mr Hodgins was last seen about 6.45pm, leaving an aged care facility in
Morgan St, Childers, and heading south towards Broadhurst St. Following
his disappearance, a large-scale search was immediately initiated
involving SES volunteers, aerial drone support, the Queensland Fire
Department, Queensland Police Service trail bikes and helicopters.
The proximity of dense bushland to the area where Mr Hodgins vanished
has heightened concerns among locals.
In the initial days of the search, police expressed hope that Mr Hodgins
might have taken shelter in a shed or an abandoned structure, urging
landholders to inspect their properties thoroughly.
Bundaberg Police Chief Inspector Grant Marcus issued a public appeal for
residents in a 5km radius of Childers to search their properties once
more.
“If you locate anything of interest, please contact police,” he said at
the time.
While authorities had considered the possibility that Mr Hodgins might
be in the Townsville area or attempting to travel there, they also
reaffirmed their focus on the Childers area, issuing updated information
on May 23.
The Childers community has been deeply invested in the search for Mr
Hodgins.
His photographs have been prominently displayed in pubs and cafes as the
town unites in the effort to find him.
Mr Hodgins is described as a caucasian man, about 180cm tall with a slim
build, hazel eyes and brown hair.
At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing a black coat, blue polo
shirt, jeans and brown shoes.
Authorities continue to appeal to the public for any information
regarding Mr Hodgins’ whereabouts, urging anyone with information to
contact Policelink.
