Police hold fears for missing mum

Geoff Egan | 26th January 2012 - QT

POLICE fear for the life of a 32-year-old mother believed to be missing near Aratula.

Tina Greer, a mother of a 13-year-old daughter, was visiting her boyfriend in the Aratula-Boonah area last Thursday before disappearing.

Police have discovered her car, phone and belongings and have not been able to contact her boyfriend, who is believed to have links to The Finks motorcycle gang.

Police have set up a facility on the Cunningham Hwy at Aratula with pictures of Ms Greer and a car similar to hers in the hope of jogging people's memories.

Inspector Keith McDonald said police were continuing to treat the case as a search for a missing person.

"There's no evidence of foul play at this stage," he said.

"But the disappearance of Miss Greer is of concern to us because she has been missing now for over a week and the circumstances about her disappearance do lead us to have grave concerns for her safety and wellbeing.

"We're concerned for the state of Miss Greer.

"She has missed a number of important dates and times in her life and also her daughter's life.

"The fact that she's been missing for over a week is totally out of character with her. She hasn't accessed any bank accounts. We've located her mobile phone and all other personal belongings have been located that she had on her."

Ms Greer is a resident of Beechmont in the Gold Coast hinterland.

Insp McDonald said while her boyfriend was a known associate of The Finks, he didn't believe there was a direct link between Ms Greer and the gang.

"I am aware that her boyfriend had an affiliation with The Finks motorcycle club but I'm unaware of any direct association Ms Greer had to The Finks motorcycle club.

"The boyfriend has not contacted police at this stage.

"We haven't been able to locate the boyfriend. All endeavours to locate the boyfriend at the present stage have been unsuccessful."

Despite placing a unit in Aratula, Insp McDonald said the search for Ms Greer had ground to a halt after SES units were had to attend to flooding.

Family's desperate plea on missing Beechmont woman Tina Greer

Police divers are this morning scouring several waterways and dams on a private property off Spicers Gap Rd after Ms Greer's car was found, locked and abandoned, at the nearby Governors Chair Lookout, near Cunninghams Gap in the state's southwest, last Sunday.

Ms Greer, 32, was last seen on Wednesday, January 18, when she left her home at Beechmont in the Gold Coast hinterland.

It's believed she was driving to the Aratula area to visit her boyfriend.

Ms Greer's older brother Adam, father Philip, and siblings Matthew and Peter, this morning appealed to the public for information on their missing sister.

Adam Greer said the family, including Ms Greer's 13-year-old daughter, were distraught.

"We just want to make an appeal to the public, we're very worried about our sister and if anyone can help out that would be really good," he said.

"We love her. If anyone can shed any light on anything, we would really love that.

"She's a much loved sister. She's a good person, we love her, we miss her."

Regional crime co-ordinator for the southern police region detective Inspector Darrin Shadlow said police were seeking information from anyone who may have seen Ms Greer's maroon-coloured Holden Commodore.

He said she would have driven from the Beechmont area through to Aratula on January 18, visiting the Governors Chair Lookout and Spicers Gap Rd on or around January 22.

Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Two years later, he was in court again, charged with two counts of possessing a dangerous drug. He was committed to stand trial on only one of those charges.

Police yesterday continued their search for the 32-year-old mother.

Search for Gold Coast woman fruitless

A SEARCH of cliffs and creeks in a Queensland forest off the Cunningham Highway has failed to find any trace of missing Gold Coast woman Tina Greer.

Police spent today scouring thick scrub around the Governor's Chair lookout in the Spicer's Gap state forest, west of Aratula, where the 32-year-old's car was found.

Ms Greer was last seen in the Beechmont area at 2pm on Wednesday, January 18, when she left the Gold Coast for the Aratula area near Lake Moogerah.

Her maroon 2003 Commodore with a distinctive gold Chevrolet badge on the front grille was found parked at the Governor's Chair lookout on January 22.

Police want anyone who visited the lookout between January 18 and 22, or any bushwalkers who were in the area at that time, to call them.

District Inspector Keith McDonald says Ms Greer could have travelled through the Boonah, Aratula and Moogerah areas.

Thursday's operation involved police, detectives from the State Crime Operations Command, stock squad officers and the State Emergency Service.

It concentrated on the western area of the car park at Spicer's Gap and down both sides of Spicer's Gap road. The stock squad also searched a number of local creeks.

"This is the second phase of a search that commenced last week," Det Insp McDonald told reporters.

"The first part of the search focused on cliff areas and the second phase focused on bushland to the west and the road down to the bottom."

Ms Greer has blue eyes, shoulder length blonde hair and a distinctive tattoo of a snake and flowers on the top of her left hand.

Phil Greer pleads for any information on case of missing Gold Coast woman Tina Greer

THE father of a Gold Coast woman missing for more than two weeks has made a passionate plea for any information that could solve the baffling case.

Tina Greer's early model maroon Holden Commodore was found abandoned at the Governor's Chair lookout, near Aratula west of the Gold Coast, on January 22.

That was four days after the 32-year-old mother had left her Beechmont home to visit her boyfriend at Clumber.

There has been no trace of her since, with police yesterday ramping up a second phase search.

Her father, Phil Greer, told The Courier-Mail yesterday the family was doing it tough.

"We all miss her," he said. "If she is out there somewhere, we would ask her to contact someone.

"Let us know she is safe. But if there is anyone else who knows anything, any information will help."

Ms Greer had been expected to spend only one night at the home of her boyfriend, a patched member of the Finks outlaw bikie gang, before returning to Beechmont to pick up her 13-year-old daughter Lili the following day.

Police have spoken to her boyfriend, who cannot be named.

Ipswich District Police Inspector Keith McDonald said officers, dog squads and SES volunteers were scouring creeks and bushland near where Ms Greer's car was found.

He also asked for anyone who had visited the popular bushwalking area in the past two weeks and noticed Ms Greer or her car to come forward.

Police believe her car, with registration 067 MDE, could have travelled through the Boonah, Aratula and Moogerah areas.

Ms Greer is described as 178cm tall with blue eyes, shoulder-length blonde hair and a coloured snake tattoo and flowers on her left hand.

When she went missing she was wearing a floral skirt, an orange off-the-shoulder top and leather slip-on sandals.

Anyone with any information should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Divers scour lake for body

POLICE divers used specialised sonar technology to scour the depths of Lake Moogerah yesterday as the search for missing Gold Coast woman Tina Greer continued.

Hope that the 32-year-old mother will be found alive is fading, with investigators yesterday confirming they were looking for a body.

Ms Greer was last seen on Wednesday, January 18, when she left her Beechmont home to visit her boyfriend in Aratula.

The man, believed to be a patched member of the Finks motorcycle gang, was questioned by police but could shed no light on her whereabouts.

Her car, a Commodore sedan, was found locked, but with her mobile phone and other possessions inside, at the Governors Chair Lookout, near Cunninghams Gap.

Ipswich Detective Inspector Lew Strohfeldt said divers and mounted police were combing Lake Moogerah because of its proximity to the lookout.

"We have very grave concerns for Tina," he said.

Ms Greer's family continues to hope she will be found alive.

"It's not sounding good," said her father, Phil.

Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

COLD CASE: Tina Greer left Beechmont in January 2012 and was never seen again

COLD CASE: Tina Greer left her parent’s Beechmont home in January 2012, headed for her bikie boyfriend’s home, she was never seen again.

WHEN young mum Tina Greer left her Gold Coast home to visit her bikie boyfriend, her family had no idea it would be the last time they would ever see her.

It was a sunny morning on January 18 in 2012 and the 32-year-old told her family she would be back in a day or two but she never returned.

Witness accounts confirm Miss Greer made it to her boyfriend’s house on Spicers Gap Rd in Aratula, near Boonah and she was seen leaving there on the morning of January 19.

But that same day her 58-year-old boyfriend, a patched member of the Finks Outlaw Motorcycle Club, called Miss Greer’s brother to tell him she was missing.

Four days later Miss Greer’s maroon Holden Commodore was found abandoned at Governor’s Chair Lookout off Spicers Gap Rd, with all her personal belongings locked inside.

Police confirmed Miss Greer’s bank accounts had not been accessed since January 18, 2012 and it was suspected she may have met with foul play.

The discovery sparked a massive search which included police divers and cadaver dogs but no trace of the woman was ever found.

Mobile units were set up around the area with large signs and pictures of Miss Greer, hoping to jog someone’s memory.

Police interviewed Miss Greer’s boyfriend but never confirmed he was a suspect and he moved from the area shortly after.

Miss Greer was known to police and had been in court for drug offences not long before she vanished.

In April 2012 “fresh information” led to an air search and a team of divers scouring the Moogerah Dam but again nothing was found.

Miss Greer’s father, Phillip, made several public appeals in the years following his daughter’s disappearance but family members have chosen not to speak in recent years.

One relative, who would not be named, said nothing had changed and no one knew what happened to Miss Greer but they had accepted she was no longer alive.

In 2013, Mr Greer said the ordeal had been extremely hard on Miss Greer’s only daughter, who was 13 at the time of her mother’s disappearance.

“It’s been a bit hectic just not knowing what’s happened to her,” he said at the time.

“They’re (the family) all going through a hard time.

“I think I know what has happened to her but that doesn’t close the book.

“The Morcombes waited nine years to find out what happened to their son.

“She was my only daughter and we want to know what happened to her, so we can have some closure.”

In 2013 a Facebook page, ‘Tina Louise Greer — Missing Gold Coast Mum’, was established.

It now has 235 members but nothing has been posted in three years.

Ipswich Detective Senior Sergeant Gary Dixon, who has now retired, said the case would remain open until Miss Greer was found.

In 2013 he said all potential leads had been dead ends.

“We’ve run out every piece of information, every lead in relation to it,” he said.

“We have investigated all Crime Stoppers information that has come in.

“There have been no further sightings or information that may suggest where she is, or what happened.

“The case is ongoing and will remain ongoing until she is located.”

Miss Greer is described as caucasian, 178cm tall, proportionate build, with blonde hair and blue eyes.

She was last seen wearing a floral dress and leather sandals.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Tina Greer's suspected murder prompts $250,000 reward

Eight years since Queensland woman Tina Greer disappeared her heartbroken family still don't have answers.

Lili Greer was just 13 years old when her mother, 32, left her with friends on the Gold Coast before driving west to see her boyfriend Les "Grumpy" Sharman on January 18, 2012.

Lili described her Mum as the "strongest woman" and said she needed answers.

"I beg you to please come forward … I'm haunted daily by the unknown," the now 21-year-old said.

Tina Greer's car was found on a dirt road near Governor's Chair Lookout in the Scenic Rim region on January 21 that year.

Despite extensive searches in the area, including in nearby Lake Moogerah, Tina Greer's body has never been found.

Cold case murder suspected

On Friday her daughter Lili Greer joined police in appealing for information about what happened to her Mum.

A $250,000 reward has been offered for any fresh details surrounding what police suspect is a cold case murder.

Ms Greer was last seen at a Beechmont Road home in the Gold Coast hinterland around 2:00pm on Wednesday, January 18, 2012, intending to travel to Clumber.

Detective Inspector David Briese said Mr Sharman was apparently the last person to see Ms Greer before she was reported missing.

"He was obviously a person of interest since the investigation began but he died in a traffic crash in 2018," he said.

"Someone out there will know and have knowledge of what happened to Tina, and where she may be."

'Give Tina the peace she deserves'

Police are also urging the man who called homicide detectives in Brisbane in mid-2014 to contact them again.

"The information provided was fairly broad, but it involved that two persons being involved in the disappearance of Tina and her murder and the subsequent disposing of her remains" Detective Inspector Briese said.

"We want to see the right people brought to justice," he said
