Circumstances

Dr Victoria Jean Paine, 68, was last seen on 19 March 2025 before disappearing from her home address at Lady Barron on Flinders Island in Tasmania.  It is believed she left on foot in the direction of White Beach. Extensive land, air and sea searches for Victoria were conducted, but she remains a missing person.

Search intensifies for missing 68-year-old woman on Flinders Island

A search for a missing 68-year-old woman on Flinders Island has entered its fifth day.

Victoria Jean Paine, a White Beach resident, has not been seen or heard from since Wednesday afternoon last week, prompting a large-scale search operation across the island.

Police from Flinders Island and Launceston have been working alongside State Emergency Service volunteers over the weekend to locate the missing woman.

The operation has utilised various resources including the Westpac Rescue Helicopter for aerial observations.

Search efforts are now shifting to targeted ground operations and a sea search involving police divers deployed from the police vessel Cape Wickham.

Anyone with information or who may have been contacted by Paine after 2pm on Wednesday is urged to contact police.

 

Search for missing woman ongoing on Flinders Island

Tuesday, 25 March 2025 - 2:42 pm.

Police are continuing to search the Flinders Island area for 68-year-old Victoria Jean Paine, who has not been heard from since Wednesday.

“Police are continuing to search the White Beach area for missing woman Victoria Paine,” said Inspector Luke Manhood. 

“We are undertaking broad investigations to track Victoria’s last known movements and at this stage we believe she has most likely left home on foot late on Wednesday afternoon, potentially to go swimming.”  

“Significant resources have conducted land and sea searches, and police divers are continuing to search the area off White Beach today.” 

“At this time there is no indication of any suspicious circumstances relating to Victoria’s disappearance; however, police are pursuing all avenues of inquiry in our search for her.”
